On Fire

The photo series “On Fire” captures the dense urban landscape of the Manhattan island. The building reflections, bathed in a warm, almost fiery glow, create a transcendent pattern that plays with light and shadow. This effect is achieved by purposefully underexposing the photograph, while shooting just after sunrise, allowing the natural contrasts and textures of the city scapes to emerge with dramatic intensity. The photographs were taken using a traditional Hasselblad with a 500mm lens and a tele-converter, resulting in an somewhat impressive focal length of 1000mm. This choice of equipment allows for an incredibly detailed and focused perspective, isolating specific sections of Manhattan’s architectural splendor. The use of traditional film material adds a layer of authenticity and timelessness, preserving the somewhat raw beauty of the scene without the need for any filters, not to mention any Photoshop effects.
