Flying Sails – Les Voiles de Saint Tropez
In the sun-drenched expanse of the Mediterranean Sea, sailboats glide with their sails set, perfectly trimmed to catch the wind. These sails, full and billowing, are the essence of freedom and adventure for many sailing enthusiasts, steering their vessels through azure waters.
Now imagine the hull, mast, and rigging stripped away, leaving only the sails levitating above the shimmering sea. These flying sails hover in an ethereal way, almost ghost-like, casting delicate reflections and shadows on the water below. They float gracefully, symbols of boundless dreams, gliding effortlessly across the surface.
In the series Flying Sails the artist employs a simple principle. By removing the ship’s hull, masts, and rigging from otherwise splendid, but mundane images that originally only depict sailboats with their sails set, the artist creates compositions that skillfully attempt to mislead the viewer through the creation of surreal images.
The images shown above are an excerpt from the Edition Flying Sails – Les Voiles de Saint Tropez, containing roughly thirty images in total, photographed during the famous regatta Les Voiles de Saint Tropez, taking place annually in southern France.
