Schloss Hollenburg – Winery, Exhibition & Event Location
Josef Kornhäusl (1814) | Krems-Hollenburg, Austria
Hollenburg Castle is a landmarked group of buildings in the Hollenburg district of Krems. The banker and later baron Johann Jakob von Geymüller purchased the Hollenburg estate from the imperial chamber fund in 1811.
Located on the western edge of the Hollenburg district, the castle is situated on the main road, with the group of buildings extending on both sides of the road. When construction began in 1812, the old Freisinger manor house stood on the north side of the road, so the first buildings were erected on the south side. During this construction, a municipal building was built along the road, along with two two-story buildings flanking a one-story central section.
Behind them, courtyards were created to the southeast and southwest, with the latter being enclosed by another building to the south. After the manor house on the north side of the road was demolished, a three-story residential building with nine street-facing window bays was constructed there. The first floor is connected to a two-story outbuilding by a covered passageway. Behind the castle lies a large park with a distinctive garden pavilion.
Between 1812 and 1814, he had the present castle built on this land. The castle has remained in family ownership to this day, with the current owner being Rudolf Geymüller.
