Haus Blick
Hinterbrühl, Austria – Caramel & Thomas Ausweger Architects
Haus Blick nestles into the sloping terrain above Hinterbrühl, while opening itself toward the expansive surrounding landscape.
Upon entering, the seamless fusion of light, space, and nature becomes immediately apparent. Expansive glazing opens the living areas to the garden and the scenery beyond, allowing interior and exterior spaces to flow effortlessly into one another.
The lower level accommodates the entrance, two covered parking spaces, a garage, a guest room as well as the technical and utility rooms.
Located above these are the bedrooms and private retreats; embedded into the hillside, these spaces offer maximum privacy. The master bedroom features a generous terrace with views over the forests of Hinterbrühl.
A straight-flight staircase connects the levels, ascending past the bedrooms along a glazed strip that follows the slope. Running parallel to it, separated only by the glass, is an external staircase that hugs the hillside, further blurring the lines between garden and interior across all floors. This external path provides direct access to all levels from the main open-plan living, dining, and kitchen areas. Future-proofing is integrated into the design via a pre-installed elevator shaft, currently utilized as additional storage on each floor.
The primary living level opens toward both the valley and the hillside, flanked by spacious terraces on either side. In addition to the terrace glazing, sawtooth skylights allow the gaze to immerse into the pine forest on the uphill side.
To the rear, a sheltered terrace connects directly to a south-facing infinity pool, offering sweeping views of the rolling hills. These terraces act as outdoor extensions of the interior, ensuring the landscape remains a constant, tranquil presence.
A palette of exposed concrete, terrazzo, and polished concrete, complemented by a warm brown-beige aluminum facade, lends the house a sense of calm and tectonic clarity. Nearly every corner of the building maintains a profound connection to its site: light and views define the living experience, allowing Haus Blick to emerge as a natural extension of the hillside.
